Osram

Country of origin: Germany

Assortment by product groups: lamps

OSRAM produces large volumes of lamps for a group of the most demanding and scrupulous consumers around the world, and covering not only the automotive segment but also everyday life.

- In 1898, the Austrian chemist Karl Auer von Welsbach, using injection molding, was able to produce an incandescent filament from osmium, a brittle accompanying metal. In 1905, Fritz Blau and Hermann Remane made a lamp with a tungsten filament. Tungsten has the highest melting point among all metals and is still used in incandescent lamps.

- On April 17, 1906, the OSRAM trademark, as a sign of a lamp with a metal filament, was registered with the Auer — Gesellschaft Company by the Imperial Patent Office in the German trademark register under the number WZ 86.924. The name OSRAM appeared as a result of the merger of parts of the name of the metals osmium and wolfRAM.

- In 1910, Siemens & Halske AG started manufacturing incandescent lamps under the Wotan brand with tungsten and tantalum filaments.

- In 1919, three major manufacturers of incandescent lamps: Deutsche Gasglihlicht AG (Auer-Gesellschaft), Siemens & Halske AG and AEG, decided to merge their incandescent lamp productions and establish a limited partnership OSRAM Werke GmbH, Berlin. The partnership began its activity on July 1, 1919. As a result of the merger of three productions, the largest German manufacturer of incandescent lamps appeared on the market. In the same year, in addition to the OSRAM name, the OSRAM logo appeared.

- Since 1926, the incandescent lamp has a characteristic shape, preserved by the beginning of the XXI century. The oval—shaped OSRAM logo with its image (then — up with a plinth, since 2001 — down with a plinth) exists in three colors - orange, white and blue.

- In 1937, the company started producing fluorescent lamps. In the same year, OSRAM was awarded a Gold Medal at the World Exhibition in Paris for Superlux high-voltage fluorescent lamps.
